Frequently Asked Questions

We were established in 1986 as a job listing and career planning information service. We have been online since March 1997. Our mission is to help to match candidates with jobs in the competitive arts and humanities marketplace. We specialize in entry-level and early-career-level postings, although we also have many vacancies appropriate for re-careering and experienced candidates.

In addition to our online service, we publish hard copy job listings bulletins (available by subscription). For more information about these offline resources, click here.

ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS

1. How will you help me to find a job?

We have more than 2000 active postings in the arts and humanities, with daily updates and a complete refreshing of jobs every two to four weeks. We are your best single source of arts and humanities jobs online.

Our vacancies are located nationwide... in small towns and large cities. We also average more than two hundred overseas postings at any given time.

We offer a range of job lifestyle options, including full-time, part-time, and telecommuting/offsite postings.

Our job postings are diverse and ever-changing. We specialize in jobs that we find to be interesting and challenging. We think you will too! You can preview current job postings from Arts & Humanities Jobs Online!

Our job posting list is easy to search by keyword(s) and geographic location. Or, you can browse through the entire postings list.

As a subscriber to Arts & Humanities Jobs Online!, you can use our free resume posting service. We'll post your resume (or multiple resumes) for free for the duration of your subscription. Your resume will be viewed by employers, who can then contact you directly.

Our links and resources (link to links page) has lots of handy information about job hunting in the arts and humanities fields. Check it out!

2. Is there a charge for your services?

Yes, we charge a modest subscription fee. Here's why... We offer hard-to-find, and, in many cases, one-of-a-kind job postings. As you know, finding an interesting job in the humanities is intensely competitive. Just knowing where the jobs are will give you an enormous advantage... and we have more arts and humanities jobs than anyone.

If you've searched the big free job databanks, you've probably discovered by now that you get what you pay for -- very little, or nothing! Try searching for an entry-level "historian" posting, or for a "scriptwriter" on the big search engines. You'll be lucky to find a single vacancy that meets your criteria.

And another thing -- we've been in the arts and humanities job information business since 1986. That's good for you, our subscriber, because we have contacts, we are plugged in, we know where the fun but tough-to-find jobs are. And we deliver them to you in an easy-to-use package.

Best of all, we let you try before you buy! Click here (link to preview page) to preview thousands of postings and to see the kinds of job categories in which we have vacancies right now.

3. Why should I choose Arts & Humanities Jobs Online! over other online sites?

Our jobs are current and fresh.

We collect for you, in one easily searched job posting database, the best nationwide selection of arts and humanities postings available.

Unlike the megajob sites connected to search engines and portals, this is what we do and it's all that we do. And, unlike the big jobzilla sites, we offer depth and variety in the arts and humanities fields. You=ll have fun browsing our job postings and employer profiles -- it's amazing to see the wide variety of interesting options available to humanities grads... and some even pay well!

We aren't owned and operated by high-tech wonks (bless >em). Our publisher is a political science and international relations grad, and our job researchers and editors are also humanities grads. We've been through the job search process ourselves. We know how frustrating it can be looking for a liberal arts or arts and humanities job opening. The good news is that there are great jobs available now! Our mission is to help you find them.

4. What keywords should I use?

JOB SEEKERS: Use keywords that are specific to your primary job interest. Be certain to use words rather than phrases. For your first search, try generic job categories such as "artist". To narrow your search, you can use more precise words like "graphic" and "sculpture".

If you are posting a resume, use keywords in the text and job interest heading for which an employer in your particular field might search.

EMPLOYERS AND RECRUITERS: When searching the resume database, use keywords that most accurately describe the essence of your vacancy.

You may want to start with a generic job category like "artist". Next, for a more specific search, add words like "graphic" or "creative".

5. Can I change my resume?

Yes. Change your phrasing, keywords, contact information, etc., any time you wish. You may delete your resume, or create a new one. Just go to post your resume (link to resume posting page); enter your UserID and password; and retrieve your resume, which you can change as you wish.

6. How does your online service differ from your printed job bulletins?

ONLINE JOB POSTINGS: Our online job postings are updated daily and are available to view at any time during your subscription period. In addition, you have access to the entire database, as well as the opportunity to post your resume online for review by employers. The number of online job postings is typically 20% higher than in the print bulletins: this is because we have more flexibility with online postings and can use vacancies with closing dates that wouldn't meet the print deadline cycles.

PRINTED CURRENT JOBS BULLETINS: We publish (available in hard copy or e-mail) seven job listings bulletins and one career planning newsletter: they are Current Jobs for Liberal Arts Graduates; Current Jobs in Writing, Editing & Communications; Current Jobs in Management & Business; Current Jobs in Education; Current Jobs International; Current Jobs in Visual Arts; Current Jobs in Performing Arts.

As you can see from the job titles, the jobs listed in each bulletin are specialized. Also, the bulletins only list entry-level positions or positions for candidates with 0-2 years experience, while our online service also includes postings for experienced candidates. The print bulletins are geared for the candidate who does not have regular access to the Internet, and to colleges and libraries that need hard-copy printed copies for display to their users.
